Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions:
- Who runs this site?
The site is owned by Carissa, who does all the behind-the-scenes work. - What is the purpose of this site?
The purpose of this site is to host quality fanfiction featuring characters from the same generation as the Marauders. - What scripts does the site use, and are they available for download?
The site uses eFiction for the archives, and Simple Machines for the forums. - How do you pick the featured stories and how often do they change?
The admins suggest featured stories from among our favorites. I don't change them as often as I should. Ideally, they would be changed every two weeks.
Questions about Submissions:
- How can I submit my fanfic or art?
If you'd like to submit your work, please read through our Submissions Policy . - How do I decide what category and genre to use when submitting?
Pick the genre that best describes your fic. You may select multiple categories. - How do I decide how to rate my story or artwork?
This site uses a rating system unique rating system based on age-appropiateness. The ratings are from Everyone to 16 and up. (Please note, we do not archive "adult" content.) Please use the following guidelines when deciding how to rate your fic:
Everyone
Stories with no descriptions of sexual situations, violence, strong language or drug use. Stories rated "everyone" should be appropiate for everyone in both content and theme.
8 and Older
Stories rated "8 and older" may contain a few references to violence, sexual situations, or strong language, but would still be appropaite in theme and content for most children over the age of 8.
13 and Older
Stories rated "13 and older" will be slightly more mature in theme and content. They may contain violence, strong language, sexual situations or drug use. However, strong language and descriptions of nudity will not be sexual in nature.
16 and Older
Stories with the "16 and older" rating may contain sexual situations or graphic violence, but not "adult content". These stories would be inappropiate for children in both theme and content. This site archives stories with this rating on a case by case basis, and does not archive "adult conent" at all.
Adult Content
Stories rated "adult oontent" would be inappropiate for people under 18. They may contain very graphic descriptions of violence, or sexual acts. We do not accept stories of this nature on this site. - Why don't you accept all submissions?
Because the focus of this site is on quality not quantity and I'd rather not compromise this just so I can have a large archive. - How long after I submit my fic do I have to wait on a decision?
We try to read all submissions and make a decision within a week. If for some reason, we get behind, I‘ll post a note on the index page. - My story is complete, but the summary says it's not. How can I change that?
After your fic has been accepted and put up on the site, you can mark your fics as complete by logging into your account and selecting the option to "Edit/Delete Stories." You will then be taken to a listing of all of your validated works and you can edit them accordingly. To mark something complete, simply click on "no" after "completed." You can also change this on submission or edit. - My first submission was rejected. Does that mean you won't archive any of my fics?
No, not at all. I will always tell you why your fic was rejected, and just because one fic didn‘t meet our guidelines, others may. If your fic was rejected because of excessive grammatical errors, or what I consider poor characterization, then you‘re even welcome to work on it and resubmit. - Do you offer a beta-reading service?
No, at this point, a beta reading service is beyond the scope of what I am prepared to do for the site. If you‘d like to obtain the services of a beta, I urge you to check out Perfect Imagination. - Why don't you accept slash? Or stories rater higher than "16 and older"?
Because, right now, it's just me running the site, and I only accept stories I want to read (since I have to read them all), and slash is something I don't enjoy. For the most part, I think they are out of character. Also, accepting anything higher than an "R" rated story presents its own problems in that I have to worry about who, exactly, is reading them. - Do you really not accept any stories about Snape in love?
I suppose it depends. Snape is surly and greasy, and personally, I wouldn't date him. And when I read about someone running her fingers through his hair, it grosses me out. Sorry.
Ok, the real answer is yes, I would accept a story which featured Snape in a romantic relationship, as long as it was well written. (And feature no fingers-through-the-hair scenes.)
Questions about eFiction:
- Do I have to register for an account if I just want to read the stories?
No, you don't. You just click and read. You can even review. :) - What are the advantages to registering for the archive if I don't want to submit anything?
There are several advantages to registering besides the ability to submit stories. One is that you can choose your layout (skin). I will be adding more layouts as ideas come to me. Another is that you can set stories and authors as favorites, and receive email notifications when they are updated. - How do I register for an account?
To register for an account, click on "log in" from the top menu, and at the bottom of that page, you'll see an option to register. Just follow the instructions on that page and you're all set! - Why do I have to wait on a confirmation email before I can log in?
That's the way the script is set up. If you don't receive an email with your password, send me an email at admin @ timeturner.net (remove spaces), and I'll set you a temporary password. - How can I change my password or other personal information?
To change your password, bio, email, etc., log into your account and select "edit personal information" from the menu. - How do I add stories/authors to my favorites list?
To add a story to your favorites list, simply click on the link provided at the end of the story/chapter. To add an author, go to the author's user page, and click on the link next to the name. To remove a story or author, log in and select "manage favorites." - What is a skin? How do I change my archive skin?
A skin is simply a layout or design. To change your skin, log in, and click on the menu at the top. - I don't like any of the skins you have, will you make a new one for me?
If you have an idea, please let me know. I can't promise I'll do it, or that I'll have it done as soon as you'd like, but I'm always open to suggestions. - I read a story at another site that I really liked, but I don't see it here? Why?
Because we only archive stories that are submitted to us. Though, sometimes, I'll really like something I read somewhere else and email the author. If you have suggestions, please let me know.
If you have other questions that are not answered here, please email me at admin @ timeturner.net (remove spaces).
