Submission Rules

Timeturner.net was started as a place to host quality fics about MWPP and other characters from that generation. With the advent of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, we are expanding our scope. We will now also host fics featuring "next generation" characters.

  1. Fics that feature MWPP, Lily or other characters from their generation. However, your fics need not be specific to MWPP's time at Hogwarts. We accept fics set in any time period as long as they feature characters that were contemporaries of MWPP. (For example, we accept fics featuring Regulus Black and Petunia, though not necessarily together.)
  2. Fics that feature the "Epilogue Kids" and their contemporaries. The "Epilogue Kids" are the children of canon characters introduced in the epilogue. Namely, Teddy Lupin; Victoire Weasley; James, Albus and Lily Potter; Hugo and Rose Weasley; and Scorpius Malfoy.
  3. Fics that feature the Remus/Tonks pairing.
  4. Snape/Lily friendship fics. Meaning they can't actually be in a romantic relationship, though they can be struggling with the possibility.
  5. Fics from authors who already have at least one MWPP-Lily fic archived. (Harry Potter only.) However, while we invite you to submit other fics, we would still like the site to focus on the Marauder-era, so these will be accepted on a highly selective basis. We would also prefer that any main character shipping be canon (H/G, R/Hr), though other ships may also be considered at the discretion of the submissions team.

Please keep the following guidelines in mind when submitting fics. Failure to do so will result in your fic being rejected:

  1. Not every fic submitted to Timeturner.net will be accepted. The submissions team will read through all submissions to make sure they comply with our submission requirements, and match the scope and focus of the site.
  2. Before submitting, please spell-check and read through your fic to make sure your grammar is correct. Numerous grammatical errors will result in your fic being rejected. (If English is not your native language, please let us know when you initially submit your fic, and we will take that into consideration.)
  3. While timeturner.net does not provide an official beta-reading service, we encourage all authors to acquire a beta reader to look over their fic. If you do not have a beta and would like one, you should check out Perfect Imagination.
  4. On occasion, I will make exceptions for fics that I feel would make good additions to the site, but have some problems regarding spelling, grammar, or characterization. The submissions team may offer feedback or beta reading services to make your fic compliant with the site's expectation of quality. These exceptions will be at discretion of the site's administrators and will not be made for fics that fail to otherwise adhere to submissions policy.
  5. Acceptance for publication to the site is based on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Thus, you may be asked to correct mistakes in subsequent chapters of fics that already have one or more chapters posted.
  6. Banners for individual fics are not allowed in summaries, and I prefer if they were used in moderation on author pages. (One per story, and please host them off-site.)
  7. When submitting multi-chaptered fics, please submit only one chapter at a time.



We will not accept the following:

  1. Fics that do not adhere to canon. If your fic was started before the release of Deathly Hallows, please indicate that in the submission form. For a fic to be considered "canon", it must take into account not only events as they are laid out in the Harry Potter books, but also characterization must be a reasonable extension of the books.
  2. Fics rated "adult content". (This includes fics with excessive violence and strong sexual content.)
  3. Non-canon slash. The webmaster does not perceive a romantic relationship between Remus and Sirius, nor does she want to read about a relationship between Snape and anyone.
  4. A.U. or fandom crossover fics. We don't believe Frodo will ever visit Hogwarts, nor will any of the Marauders fall for a time-travelling Buffy!



If you feel your fic meets the above qualifications, please feel free to submit it to the archive using the instructions below:

  • To Submit Fanfiction:
    To submit fanfiction, you must first register for an account. After you login, you will be taken to a page that has a list of options, including adding a story. Click on that link and follow the instructions to submit your fic. An admin will look over your fic and decide whether or not to accept it. Either way, you'll receive an email informing you of our decision.

    A note on formatting: It is recommended that you go to your account options and turn on TinyMCE before submitting fics. TinyMCE is a text editor that will enable you to format your fics easily. TinyMCE also offers you the option of pasting from Word or a text file and will (mostly) maintain your original formatting. If you prefer not to use TinyMCE for formatting you may either copy your fic into the text block or upload an html file from your computer. Note, if you copy it directly, you must add the proper formatting codes.

 

  • To Submit Fanart
    To submit fanart, you must first register for an account. After you login, you will be taken to a page with a list of options. Choose the option to "manage images" (note that images may not exceed 640 x 480 pixels). After you upload the image, you will be taken to a page with the html code for the image on our server. Go to the page to upload a story and fill in the form. In the box for story text, copy the code for the image. Please do not add anything other than the image to the story text box. If you'd like to make notes on your artwork, such as medium or techniques, you may add them as the summary. Also, be sure you choose the "fanart" category. If you choose a different category, it will be changed.
